Brian Wood

He enjoys putting his energy into personal and business development, expansion and spirit - "seeing the light shining in others' eyes" - this underpins his commitment to coaching.

A professional engineer, Brian now prefers to engineer growth, structure and strength in his coaching clients rather than buildings. For Brian, life is a continuous learning curve and stagnation is to be avoided. He enjoys putting his energy into personal and business development, expansion and spirit - " seeing the light shining in others' eyes" - this underpins his commitment to coaching.

In Brian's eyes, success is as much about 'nous' as experience, intelligence or hard work. And it's the extra sense of intuition, perception and commonsense - seeing the bigger picture- that Brian likes to nurture in his clients. For Brian, coaching is about crystallising issues, setting standards and goals, giving clients a 'buzz', getting the best out of them and guiding - not instructing- his people along their professional and personal paths.

Brian's analytical skills were refined during a distinguished and busy career in engineering that saw him develop a small New Zealand-based engineering consultancy, now Holmes Group Ltd, into an international 300-staff company. Brian attributes much of the company's success to the emphasis he continuously placed, and still places, on individual development, mentoring and the cultivation of young talent within the organisation.

While director and chairman of Holmes Group, Brian oversaw numerous large-scale engineering projects including the NZ Parliamentary buildings, the Museum of New Zealand and various embassies along with health, commercial, industrial, tourist and residential buildings, with many receiving awards for innovation and excellence - qualities he now fosters in his clients.

Brian has sat on the boards of many engineering bodies and was one of the founding directors of New Zealand's Contact Energy Ltd. Recent activities include the development and marketing of computer software, property development projects, management of a hotel and entertainment business, and forging stronger alliances across the engineering industry.

A father of two boys, Brian enjoys yachting and is an avid rugby fan.
